Palma, Mallorca: a man goes on trial on Tuesday, 3 November, accused of raping a woman after putting an unknown substance in her drink. The hearing starts at 10.00 before the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands. Prosecutors are seeking 13 and a half years in prison and 100,000 euros in compensation.

The woman went to the defendant’s home on 19 November 2019 intending to buy cocaine, according to the prosecution. The charge does not say whether he supplied any. It says he offered her a marijuana joint and a drink, then put an unspecified substance in the drink to make her lose consciousness.

Prosecutors say he raped her after she passed out, filmed the assault and kept the footage on a memory card.
