Mallorca sports centre unveils plan to prevent violence
Mallorca’s young athletes are the focus of a new plan against violence: the Balearic Sports Foundation presents safeguards for under-18s at the Balearic Sports Training Centre (Cteib) in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday. The plan is unveiled at Palma’s former fire station. It also applies to the people around the young athletes, including coaches, medical staff, clubs, outside companies and families.
Four documents set out how the centre aims to prevent harm. They cover protection measures, staff responsibilities and rules for behaviour. A separate procedure tells the centre how to respond to violence, harassment, conflicts and situations in which someone is particularly vulnerable.
Psychologist and child protection adviser F. Javier Romeo Biedma helped develop the plan. With permission from the Fundació FC Barcelona, the foundation used the club’s child protection documents as a starting point and adapted them for the centre. The foundation says the aim is to prevent violence and support young athletes’ wellbeing.
