Allegations began before school

The woman says the assaults began in 2003, when her stepfather touched her before she left for school and no one else was at home. She says he later assaulted her in the afternoons when her mother was out. Around 2005, she says, he began raping and hitting her.

She told the court that he forced her to undress for intimate photographs, then threatened to show them if she did not do as he said. She says he also showed the pictures to other people. The woman described needing psychological help and struggling to sleep.

Two visits to the police

The woman first went to Spain’s National Police in 2018 but did not make a formal complaint. An officer said her mother had called repeatedly and warned that she would take her own life if her daughter reported the allegations. The woman said her mother had called in tears and that she felt she would be letting her down. Officers sent her account to a court in Manacor. She returned two years later and made a complaint.

An officer told the court that the accused had sent intimate photographs of the woman to her then partner. The partner confirmed receiving them. The woman also said she had returned to the family home as an adult because of money problems. She alleges that her stepfather then assaulted her again, threatening to throw her out.
