Palma stolen car: police arrest driver after escape bid

Palma police arrested a 28-year-old man after finding him in a stolen car with its engine running in a mobility parking bay. The car had been taken from a workshop in Foners, Palma, on Tuesday, police said. When officers told the three people inside that it was reported stolen, the driver tried to get away and resisted arrest.

The workshop manager had reported the car missing after it was taken from inside the business with the keys still in the ignition. Police circulated the vehicle description to patrols.

Early the following morning, officers spotted a car matching that description. They told the occupants to get out, but police said the driver shouted insults at them. The other two people left as the driver attempted to flee.

Officers found the stolen car's key in the man's trouser pocket during a search. He had no documents and would not give his identity, so he was taken to the Policía Nacional for full identification.

After a medical check, he was held by Palma's Policía Local. The workshop manager recovered the car, and police sent the case to the duty court.
