Mallorca stolen e-scooter chase ends in Palma arrest

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after Palma police say he fled through Playa de Palma, Palma, Mallorca, on a stolen e-scooter. Officers stopped him after the pursuit on 24 September and later found he was wanted under an existing court order. They also recovered a credit card whose owner said it had been taken from his car.

The Policía Local de Palma spotted the rider at about 11.15am in Calle de les Canyes. He was travelling at excessive speed without a helmet or high-visibility vest, police said. When officers signalled for him to stop, he allegedly rode away through several streets before they caught up with him in Calle de les Canyes.

Existing court order found

The man refused to identify himself and was “not very cooperative”, according to the force. A precautionary search uncovered a mobile phone and a key fob for sports facilities in Calle de Marbella, items officers considered of doubtful origin.

Police took him to their station because they could not confirm his identity on the street. There, they found an active order from Palma Investigating Court No. 7 requiring him to be located, arrested and brought before the court.

Camera footage links scooter to theft report

Another patrol established that the e-scooter had been taken at about 11am from outside a business in Calle de les Canyes. Security footage from a neighbouring shop showed clothing matching that of the man stopped by officers.

Before he was placed in a cell, police found a credit card in his pocket belonging to another person. Its owner said the card had been stolen from his parked car in Calle de Miquel Rosselló i Alemany after one of its rear windows was smashed. He had already reported the incident to the Policía Nacional.

The Policía Local handed the man and the recovered items to the Policía Nacional. He is accused of theft and theft involving forced entry.
