Mallorca on orange alert for storm Adam’s heavy rain
Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, faces an orange rain alert on Monday as heavy showers and thunderstorms threaten to bring large amounts of rain in just a few hours. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) also expects very strong wind gusts on the island. Ibiza and Formentera are under orange rain alerts too.
The weather system Adam is bringing the unsettled conditions. Aemet expects the heaviest rain overnight and early on Monday, with very strong gusts also possible along Balearic coasts during the first half of the day. Valencia and Alicante face the highest, red-level rain alert overnight and early in the morning.
Rain is expected to ease in the Balearics later on Monday and move towards Catalonia, where it could remain heavy into the afternoon. Aemet says the worst-hit areas across the wider storm could see local totals of 300 to 400 litres per square metre, but it cannot yet say precisely where those areas will be. That figure is not a forecast for Mallorca.
