Mallorca on orange storm alert as Vox attacks climate policy

Mallorca is under an orange weather alert on Monday, 19 October 2026, as storm Adam affects the Balearic Islands. Two women have died in the severe weather. Orange alerts also cover the Valencian Community, Andalusia, Catalonia and Murcia.

Speaking at Vox’s headquarters in Madrid, party leader Santiago Abascal called for an end to what he calls “climate fanaticism”. He said more infrastructure, including dams, and the clearing of riverbeds could reduce the damage from storms like Adam. He argues that green policies prevent authorities from taking those steps.

Abascal has made the same argument since a storm struck parts of the Valencian Community in 2024. More than two hundred people died, and the damage to property was incalculable.
