Storm Bruna brings little rain to Mallorca this weekend

Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, faces only scattered rain this weekend: Storm Bruna is set to bring much heavier downpours to western Spain. Rain may reach the Balearics on Sunday, but amounts should remain small on Monday. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) says the storm will reach Galicia on Saturday, with rain spreading to Asturias and Castile and León.

The contrast grows sharper on Sunday. Aemet expects heavy, persistent rain across parts of western mainland Spain, including western Galicia, Extremadura and western Andalusia. The Canary Islands also face heavy rain and thunderstorms, according to agency spokesman Rubén del Campo.

For Mallorca, the forecast offers little sign of that heavier weather. Del Campo says rain in the Balearics will be scattered on Sunday and scant on Monday.

His warning is for low-lying areas in western mainland Spain, where sustained rain could cause flooding and rivers to rise. Heavy rain there is expected to continue into Tuesday, with further rain likely in the west and south on Wednesday and Thursday.
