Mallorca storm alert: Palma shuts Bellver and Sagrera

Mallorca storm warning: Palma City Council closes Paseo Sagrera and Bellver Park in Palma, Mallorca, until 20:00 on Saturday, 3 October. Spain’s state weather agency, Aemet, has raised its warning for rain and thunderstorms to orange in southern Mallorca and the Serra de Tramuntana.

Where the warnings apply

The weather warnings run from 12:00 to 20:00 on Mallorca and Menorca, and from 08:00 to 15:00 on Eivissa and Formentera. Aemet expects thunderstorms and 20 litres of rain per square metre in one hour on Eivissa and Formentera.

Aemet lowered its warning for Eivissa and Formentera from orange to yellow this morning. The warning remains yellow elsewhere in the Balearic Islands. Separately, the Emergencies 112 service has declared an orange IG-1 alert under its Meteobal weather plan for rain and thunderstorms on Mallorca, Eivissa and Formentera.

Overnight rain and Saturday’s forecast

Overnight showers brought 38.9 litres per square metre in one hour to Sant Antoni de Portmany, Eivissa, and 36.2 litres per square metre to Sant Joan de Labritja, Eivissa. Lluc, Mallorca, recorded 18.7 litres per square metre.

Aemet expects cloudy or overcast skies on Saturday, with showers and thunderstorms that could be locally heavy or very heavy. Temperatures will change little or dip slightly, with light to moderate winds from the east and north-east.
