Mallorca storm clean-up funds fallen pines

Crews are clearing hundreds of fallen pines in Port des Canonge in Banyalbufar, Mallorca, after the storm of 9 September damaged homes, roads and access routes. The Consell de Mallorca has set aside €80,000 for the exceptional operation, launched on Monday, 21 September.

The work covers pines and other woodland debris along road edges, in the built-up area and at several collection points. The aim is to remove the piled-up material and support affected neighbours.

The island council says much remains after the first emergency response because of the volume of damaged woodland. Two work brigades and machinery suited to the terrain and access to the area will be used. The clean-up is expected to take about a month.

Consell president Llorenç Galmés said the response must put resources where they are needed. The council says it has invested €8 million in Banyalbufar since the start of the current term, with a further €1.1 million planned for the municipality in 2026 and 2027.
