Mallorca storm warning: orange alert for Wednesday
Mallorca faces heavy rain, thunderstorms and powerful wind gusts on Wednesday under an orange weather alert covering the Balearics. The Emergency Coordination Centre 112 activated the warning after the Meteobal plan’s Technical Advisory Committee met on Tuesday morning. It says the weather could turn sharply from midday, bringing problems for traffic and at sea.
A yellow alert is also in force across the islands for coastal conditions. Mallorca and Menorca face a separate yellow warning for strong gusts, while Menorca also has a yellow alert for a possible rissaga.
Eduardo Parga, director of the Emergency Coordination Centre, said Wednesday could bring almost every type of hazard covered by the Meteobal plan: rain, thunderstorms, wind, coastal conditions and possibly a rissaga in Menorca. Further monitoring meetings are planned.
Parga urged people to take care. The day may begin sunny before changing suddenly, with thunderstorms and very powerful gusts.
