Mallorca storm warning: hail and gusts up to 90 km/h

Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands face a yellow warning on Wednesday 7 October: thunderstorms could bring hail, heavy rain and gusts of 70 to 90 km/h. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) says the warning runs from 04.00 to 16.00. As much as 20 litres per square metre of rain could fall in an hour.

Skies across the islands are expected to be mostly cloudy or overcast. Storms could be strong, or locally very strong, with occasional hail. Mist and fog are also possible in the morning.

A trough is bringing unsettled weather across Spain. In the Balearics, winds will come from the west and south and are expected to be moderate, though storm gusts could be much stronger.
