Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, faces a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms on Friday, 2 October. Ibiza and Formentera are under the higher orange warning, according to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Showers and storms could become very heavy across the Balearics during the afternoon.

Cold air high above the islands and moisture from the Mediterranean are driving the unsettled weather. Moderate easterly winds are expected along the Balearic coasts, while both daytime highs and overnight lows will fall.

The warnings are more severe on parts of the Spanish mainland. The provinces of Tarragona and Castellón are under the highest, red-level warning for rain.
