Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, faces heavy showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday. A yellow warning covers the Serra de Tramuntana and the south of the island, where 25 litres of rain per square metre could fall in an hour. Storms are expected to be strongest in western Mallorca and the Pityusic Islands, which are also under a yellow warning.

A weather system high in the atmosphere is bringing rain and a sharp drop in temperature across the Balearics. Tuesday’s highs are 14 to 19°C. María José Guerrero, the Balearic spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), says those temperatures are more typical of March. In inland towns, she says, it feels like a winter’s day.

Daytime temperatures should return to their usual levels from Wednesday. Rain and showers are expected throughout the week, though they should ease from Thursday. Aemet’s forecasts suggest next Monday could be the first dry day across the Balearic Islands.
