Parts of Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, face yellow warnings for rain and thunderstorms from Friday to Sunday: downpours could turn heavy this weekend. The Balearic government’s Directorate-General for Emergencies and Interior urged caution on Friday, 2 October, even when the weather appears fine. Ibiza and Formentera remain under an orange warning until 15.00 on Saturday, while Menorca also faces yellow warnings.

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) expects the rain and storms to sit between mainland Spain and the Balearics. Most of the rain may fall at sea, but heavy showers could still reach Ibiza and Formentera during the rest of Friday and on Saturday morning. Mallorca and Menorca could see heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.

Forecasts currently point to less than 20 litres per hour, but officials say conditions could change quickly and the rain could be stronger. They advise people to keep up with weather updates and stay away from stream beds, low-lying ground and places at risk of flooding.
