Mallorca strategic projects: Regional deadlines halved
Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands: legal deadlines are to be halved for regional government procedures involving projects classed as strategic. Balearic president Marga Prohens presented a new office in Madrid on Monday, 5 October 2026, to guide the people behind those projects through the administration and attract investment to the islands.
One contact for project backers
The office is called the Unidad Aceleradora de Proyectos Estratégicos (UAPE), a unit set up to speed up strategic projects. Prohens said a project backer would have one point of contact rather than having to deal with numerous offices. The rules and required safeguards would stay in place.
Deputy president Antoni Costa said projects designated strategic would receive priority. The halved deadlines apply only to procedures handled by the regional government. Such projects could also qualify for certain funding and financial incentives, while their backers could help shape training for the workers they need.
Investment needs workers and homes
Prohens wants to draw more businesses and investors to the islands, particularly in areas including new technology, the energy transition, industry and research. Her aim, she said, is not growth for its own sake but better-quality jobs and greater economic value.
Attracting those businesses would also mean attracting skilled workers. Prohens called for housing for researchers and employees and a stronger role for the University of the Balearic Islands. Costa said an initially approved catalogue would bring together existing tax, financial and other investment incentives so that interested investors can see what is available.
