Ibiza clears 14,000 m² of streams to cut flood risk

Santa Eulària on Ibiza has begun clearing 14,000 m² of urban streams to help water drain away during heavy rain. The council started work on 4 September at Canal del Porrador. It says the programme is aimed at reducing the risk of flooding in strategic areas.

Crews are cleaning stream beds and their sides, removing anything that could obstruct the flow of water. Further selected stretches will be tackled over the coming weeks, chosen for their role in flood prevention.

The work will cover sections of sa Sèquia de sa Llavanera, including its secondary channel, Torrent de s'Aguader, Torrent de sa Fumassa and the Santa Eulària river. Areas near road bridges in Santa Gertrudis and Can Guasch are also included.

Santa Eulària Council has set aside €18,125.80, including VAT, for the work. The Balearic Government's Directorate General for Water Resources will add its own cleaning and maintenance work on streams and watercourses in the affected areas.
