Menorca hospital boss orders strike posters down, union says
Posters for the 11 November general strike face removal from shared areas of Hospital Mateu Orfila on the Balearic island of Menorca: the hospital’s manager has ordered them taken down, the CCOO union says. On Thursday, 5 November, CCOO de Menorca named the manager as Bernardo Pax and said the posters were there to inform hospital staff and users.
The union calls the order unjustified and says it obstructs information about the strike. It argues that Spain’s constitution protects trade union activity and that Article 8 of the Organic Law on Trade Union Freedom covers the distribution of union information.
CCOO wants Pax to explain his decision and allow the strike posters in shared areas on the same terms as other notices. It has also asked the Balearic government’s health minister, Manuela García, to seek an explanation from hospital management and prevent a repeat. The union says it may take legal action, including a complaint to the relevant authorities, if it finds that trade union rights have been breached.
