Mallorca roof danger forces Sóller building evacuation

Work has stopped at the Sóller 2010 public company in Sóller, Mallorca, after UGT Servicios Públicos ordered an immediate evacuation on Thursday. The union says the state of the building’s structure and roof creates a serious danger. Parts have come away from the suspended ceiling, while other elements are resting on props in an extremely precarious condition, it said.

UGT Servicios Públicos’ Equality Secretariat raised the alarm during a visit to the site, warning employee representatives about the severe deterioration and an obvious physical risk. The warning prompted an urgent meeting of the health and safety committee.

The company has not provided technical reports guaranteeing that the building is stable, according to the union. Representatives, backed by UGT’s occupational health secretary, ordered work to cease and called for the area to be cordoned off and sealed.

UGT has filed a complaint and urgently contacted the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate. It is demanding that the company management and Sóller Town Hall ensure staff safety and carry out the necessary structural assessments without delay.

The union also wants immediate arrangements for remote working or temporary relocation, with no loss of rights or pay conditions for affected employees.
