Mallorca student prizes put tourism and firms in focus
In Palma, Mallorca, Jack Craig Wharrie and Antonio Alzamora Cardell take the top university prizes for work on Balearic companies and tourism. The University of the Balearic Islands says on Friday, 30 October, that it presented the awards with the Balearic College of Economists. Craig wins the economics prize for studying how long companies in the Balearics last; Alzamora wins the business prize for designing an asset-light model for the islands’ tourism sector.
Andrea Cepeda and Pablo Matías Valdez take second prize in economics and business respectively. Selena Sánchez and Neus Fiol receive recognition as finalists. The university says the awards recognise students’ analytical skills and critical thinking, as well as the quality of their work.
After the prizes, José Mañas, founder and chief executive of Wireless DNA, shares his experience of starting a business. A discussion with representatives from the economic and business sectors then turns to job opportunities and starting a company after university.
