In Mérida, in Spain’s Badajoz province, 38 representatives review the 2026 summer camps and youth volunteering projects this week, with changes for next year on the table. They come from Spain’s autonomous communities, the Spanish Youth Institute and the Spanish Youth Hostel Network. The Extremadura Youth Institute hosts the annual meeting of the technical committee that coordinates the programmes.

The group is comparing what worked and looking for common rules and procedures that could make the programmes easier to run. It is also discussing how to share places between regions, so young people can join a camp or project outside the community where they live. Safety, living together and participants’ different needs are on the agenda too.

The committee meets once a year, moving between Spain’s autonomous communities. Its talks continue on Friday at the Assembly of Extremadura.
