At least three of the five selected researchers must come from research centres outside the Balearic Islands. After the five-year contracts end, they may be able to take up permanent posts.

Applications from Spain and abroad

Thirty-six applications were submitted from Spain, including 30 researchers linked to Balearic Islands research centres who do not hold permanent contracts.

Other candidates have applied from Germany, Australia, Canada, Denmark, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, France, Portugal, Italy, Chile, Saudi Arabia and Sweden.

Assessment and funding

The Balearic Islands University Quality Agency is carrying out an external scientific and technical assessment, examining applicants’ academic records, the quality of their research proposals and how well the projects fit their host centres. Fernando P. Cossío, scientific director of Ikerbasque Basque Foundation for Science since 2009, will chair the assessment panel.

The call has a budget of €1,426,489.60. Selected researchers will receive at least €50,000 gross annually, plus €20,000 to begin their projects and €5,000 for mobility.
