Maó tanker water: watchdog takes up source complaint
Maó, Menorca: tanker water goes into the town’s network, but the local People’s Party (PP) says residents have not been told where it comes from. On Wednesday, 30 September, the PP said Spain’s Council for Transparency and Good Governance had opened a procedure over its complaint that the town hall had withheld the information. The town hall’s monthly reports list how much water was delivered, but not its source or the wells it came from, local PP leader Maribel Llufriu said.
Llufriu accused Mayor Héctor Pons of avoiding an explanation. She also pointed to a report that, she said, warned two years ago that the town’s water was not safe to drink. The PP wants to know which water is now being added to the network and where it comes from.
The transparency council has told the PP that its Subdirectorate-General for Complaints from Autonomous Communities and Local Authorities will handle the complaint. The council’s presidency will decide it.
