Balearic taxi and private-hire fuel aid: 178 grants proposed

Mallorca is covered by a Balearic Islands fuel-aid scheme: the regional government puts forward 178 grants for taxis and chauffeur-driven hire cars on Monday, 28 September. The aid is intended to ease higher fuel costs and the effects of the war in the Middle East.

More taxi applications to be considered

The Balearic Islands Department of Housing, Territory and Mobility says 147 taxi grants, worth nearly €31,400 in total, are proposed so far. It received 553 taxi applications and is preparing a second decision.

For chauffeur-driven hire cars, known as VTCs, all 31 grants requested are proposed. They total €28,950. These are proposals for approval, not payments.

Freight and coach payments begin

Across seven transport aid schemes, the Directorate-General for Mobility has proposed 751 grants worth more than €5.4 million. That is more than half of the nearly €10 million available to businesses and self-employed operators across the Balearic Islands.

The government began processing payments the previous Friday for 326 grants worth nearly €1 million. They cover self-employed freight operators and companies running non-scheduled coach services. Another payment decision for freight companies is being prepared.

The schemes opened in July. Across all seven, the government received 1,440 applications covering 7,636 vehicles.
