Palma, Mallorca: Prosecutors seek 10 years in prison for a taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a woman as he drove her home. The alleged assault happened in the early hours of 20 October 2023. The First Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court heard the case on Monday, 2 November 2026.

The woman told the court the driver touched her and that she was so frightened she wet herself. She says he then put his fingers into her genitals while claiming to help her dry off. She got back into the taxi to finish the journey, she said, because she feared what he might do if she reacted.

The driver disputes her account. He says she felt sick and that he stopped the car when she said she might vomit. He says he helped her clean up with her permission, and that any contact with her genitals was accidental. He also says she did not complain about his behaviour during the journey.

Prosecutors seek €10,000 in compensation, while the woman's lawyers seek €20,000. The defence asks for an acquittal or, if he is convicted, a sentence of no more than one year for sexual assault without penetration. The trial has ended, but the court has yet to deliver its verdict.
