Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands: 134 teaching posts are on offer in exams on 17 April 2027, as the islands’ overall intake falls by almost 160 posts from last year. Education minister Antoni Vera announced the date on Thursday. The Balearic Islands’ Ministry of Education and Universities is recruiting for 474 posts across the islands.

Ibiza gets the biggest share

Ibiza has 257 posts, more than any other island. Menorca has 50 and Formentera 33. All three have more posts on offer than last year; Mallorca has 134.

Across the Balearic Islands, the vacancies include 275 secondary teaching posts, 141 primary teaching posts and 45 for vocational training specialists. There are also posts in language teaching, music, performing arts and visual arts and design.

Why the exams start in April

Vera said announcing the exam date roughly six months ahead should give teachers more time to plan. The April start should also give the ministry more time to assign temporary placements, trainee teachers’ posts and vacancies. It wants teachers to know which school they will work at as early as possible before the 2027–2028 school year.

A nationwide teacher transfer process is running alongside recruitment. Applications for transfers are open from 5 to 26 November. Teachers can use the process to seek a move within the Balearic Islands or to another Spanish region. Because the two processes overlap, the ministry says it has made a cautious estimate of the posts available through the 2027 exams.
