Mallorca teachers chase unpaid 2% rise from 2020

Mallorca teachers at state-subsidised private schools want a 2% pay rise dating back to 2020: their union is seeking mediation and says it will go to court if no deal is reached. On Tuesday, 3 November, UGT Public Services of the Balearics filed a request for talks to settle the dispute with the Balearic Arbitration and Mediation Tribunal (Tamib). The union says the Balearic Ministry of Education and Universities has not answered the claim it filed on 3 August.

Public-school teachers got the rise

An agreement dated 15 April 2026 said the money owed to these teachers would be paid on the same terms as in public education, during the second or third quarter of 2026. Public-school teachers received the 2% rise on 29 June, according to UGT. Teachers at state-subsidised private schools did not.

The ministry argues that their pay was never cut; the increase simply was not applied. UGT says the result is the same for teachers who have received less than they were due.

Talks set for 24 November

The tribunal has scheduled mediation for 11am on 24 November at its office in Palma, Mallorca. The education ministry, employers’ associations and other unions have been invited.

UGT wants the money paid with interest. If the talks fail, it says it will bring a collective dispute case before the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands on behalf of affected teachers on Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera.
