Mallorca teachers’ pay protest outside Palma parliament

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Teachers’ pay brings a protest to the parliament in Palma, Mallorca, on Tuesday at 10.00. The USO trade union wants the Education and Universities Department to honour salary agreements for staff at state-funded private schools, known in Spain as concertada schools.

USO says a Governing Council agreement from 17 April 2026 promised financial recovery for those staff. It accuses the administration of failing to act and has taken the dispute to the Arbitration and Mediation Tribunal, a step before a collective labour dispute.

The union says bringing these teachers’ working conditions into line with those in public schools is part of the legal framework and a commitment the administration has already made.
