Mallorca teachers demand up to 1,000 euros in back pay
In Palma, Mallorca, a group of teachers at state-funded schools gathers outside the Balearic Parliament on Tuesday to demand 2 per cent of their 2020 pay back. The teaching union USO says each affected worker is owed between 800 and 1,000 euros.
Union leader Juan Carlos Lorenzo says the Balearic government approved the payment and set a timetable, but a narrow reading of the agreement now leaves more than 8,500 workers out. They include 3,500 teachers at state-funded schools, he says. Teachers at public schools are already receiving the money, according to Lorenzo.
USO says it has collected around 3,000 individual claims and plans to bring a collective legal claim.
