Mallorca TIB app: bus times and cards on your phone
Mallorca’s new TIB app goes live on Tuesday, 22 September, putting the Tarjeta Única and Intermodal travel cards on a mobile phone. It will also show live bus arrival times at each stop. The digital card can be used on TIB buses, EMT Palma buses, and Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca train and metro services.
The app will be available through Google Play and Apple Store. People who already hold either travel card can add it to their phone through the app.
Live bus information at stops
Passengers will be able to check when the next bus is due and save their most-used stops and routes as favourites. The app can also send alerts and service notices for those selected lines and stops.
Live information for trains and the metro is due to follow. Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca is working with TIB to add it, although that information is already available on the rail operator’s website.
More than 600 people tested the digital card
More than 600 resident public-transport users took part in a trial that began in May. It started with metro passengers before expanding to trains and buses.
The Govern says 83 per cent of users are residents with a Tarjeta Única or Intermodal card. The trial was used to test the card on mobile devices, gather users’ experiences and make changes before the wider launch.
The app works with screen readers including TalkBack and VoiceOver, automatically adjusts text size and can be used without the map view. The app and the card’s digitalisation are part of €3 million in technology and service improvements, funded by European Next Generation money under Spain’s recovery plan.
