Mallorca TIB app: 52,000 downloads, 22,000 trips
Mallorca: more than 6,000 people use the new TIB app to travel by bus, train or metro with a card on their phone in its first week. Riders make more than 22,000 journeys with the phone card, while around 52,000 people download the app after its 22 September launch. The Balearic Department of Housing, Territory and Mobility reported the figures on 1 October; 21,000 people used the app on its first day.
One card for buses, trains and metro
The virtual Tarjeta Única lets passengers carry their travel card on a phone. It works on TIB buses, Palma, Mallorca’s EMT city buses, and the trains and metro run by Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca.
Of the journeys made with the phone card in the first week, 43% were on Palma’s city buses, 33.2% on TIB buses and 23.8% on trains or the metro. To use the virtual card, passengers need an existing physical Tarjeta Única or Intermodal card, an email address linked to their TIB profile and a contactless-capable phone with NFC. They must also be able to sign in to their digital profile through ‘TIB y tú’.
What the app shows — and what comes next
The app already shows when TIB buses are due at stops in real time. Passengers can save favourite routes and stops and receive service alerts.
Locations of Palma’s city bus stops are due to be added soon. Real-time information for trains, the metro and Palma’s city buses is planned for a later phase.
