A train accident in Los Yébenes, in Spain’s Toledo province, brings Madrid’s 2027 regional budget meeting to a halt on Wednesday, 28 October. Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso suspends the meeting, saying her government will focus on those affected. Leaders of other regions offer help to Castile-La Mancha, where the accident happens on the line between Madrid and Andalusia.

Castile and León mobilises a rescue team and medical units with helicopters. Its regional president, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, offers them to Castile-La Mancha to help those affected and carry out other work needed after the accident. Aragón, Galicia and Murcia also offer support and resources.

Andalusia’s regional president, Juanma Moreno, says he is worried. He recalls the collision of two trains near Adamuz, in Córdoba province, last January, in which 46 people died. The report gives no figure for those affected by Wednesday’s accident and does not say what caused it.
