The Madrid-to-Seville AVE 2080 hits the Iryo 6076 ahead of it at 8.54, derailing parts of the Iryo train. The Castilla-La Mancha government gives the death toll as at least 30 and says early estimates from the scene suggest it could rise.

Balearic president Marga Prohens has spoken to her Castilla-La Mancha counterpart, Emiliano García Page, and offered staff and resources. Emergency officials in both regions are also in contact. Psychologists and social workers have been put on alert in case they are needed in Toledo, but no decision has been made to send them.

A minute’s silence is planned outside Palma’s town hall at 20.00, and Prohens has urged people to attend. Francina Armengol, president of Spain’s Congress of Deputies, has expressed sympathy for those affected and their families. The PP, PSIB, MÉS per Mallorca and Vox have cancelled public engagements in mourning.
