Mallorca woman Mari Carmen García remains missing on Thursday 29 October after Wednesday’s train crash in Urda, Toledo province. Her family searched hospitals in Madrid all night without finding her. García, from Inca, Mallorca, was aboard one of the trains, but her condition is unknown.

Family gives DNA samples

Her relatives have reported her missing to Spain’s Civil Guard, which took samples from them for a DNA comparison. García lives and works in Madrid. Social media posts suggest she may have been in carriage seven or eight of a train bound for Seville.

David Ruiz, mayor of Rute in Córdoba province, says the family travelled to the mainland to look for her. He says they are devastated but still hope García may be among seriously injured people who have not yet been identified.

Earlier reports corrected

After a minute’s silence outside Palma Town Hall on Wednesday, Balearic president Marga Prohens said broadcaster IB3 had reported García was out of danger. IB3 later corrected a report that she was in a hospital in Toledo. She is still missing.

Prohens says the Balearic government is taking steps to find García. She has not said what those steps are, out of respect for the family.
