Magaluf's Torrenova picked for redesign contest
Mallorca’s Magaluf has two sites in an international architecture contest: designers will propose changes to the Torrenova headland and the former Hotel Teix plot. Their selection for EUROPAN 19 was confirmed on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, according to the Balearic government’s Department of Housing, Territory and Mobility. The Balearic government put the sites forward with Calvià council, which owns the land and would carry out the eventual project.
The Torrenova headland, now publicly owned, could become a green route and public space linking this part of Magaluf. The second site is around the former Hotel Teix, which the council demolished a few months ago. The contest brief also covers the preservation of the protected Torre de Sa Porrassa and two houses by Mallorcan architect Josep Ferragut.
Architects under 40 can submit designs between March and July 2027. The jury is due to decide in October 2027; the winning team would then draw up the final project.
