Mallorca tourism: 19 countries in first council talks
On the island of Mallorca, the island council meets consular representatives from 19 countries for the first time: it wants tourism to work for residents as well as visitors. The Consell de Mallorca announced the meeting on Monday, 26 October. The talks covered the future of tourism and ways for the council and consular offices to work together.
The council wants tourism to respect residents and spread across the year. Its president, Llorenç Galmés, said Mallorca should protect its cultural and natural heritage while maintaining good relations between visitors and residents.
Galmés said he wanted to keep talking with consular representatives and hear more about the needs of the communities they represent. The council also wants better communication with visitors’ home countries and hopes to encourage behaviour that respects the island and its residents. The meeting raised opportunities to share information, but the council announced no specific agreement.
