Ibiza tourism summit tackles 324,181-person pressure
On Ibiza in the Balearic Islands, the human pressure indicator hits 324,181 people on 31 July: a three-day tourism summit opens on Wednesday to examine tourism’s impact on the island. The organisers of HIC Summit Ibiza also cite hotel occupancy of 92.06 per cent in August. The summit opens at 18.00 at the Escuela de Hostelería de las Islas.
Those figures set the scene for talks on tourism rules, coexistence, water management and protecting the sea. The programme also covers food, the marine economy and proposals linked to science, nature and local culture.
A central question is how to judge tourism growth when arrivals, spending, stays and pressure on resources tell different stories. The organisers say the talks will pair debate on regulation with ideas for creating opportunities for communities.
