Mallorca vote rejects tourism tax funds for farmers
In Palma, Mallorca, the Balearic Islands Parliament rejects a plan to use tourism tax money for investments and other costs of supporting the islands’ primary sector, including farming. The proposal from Més per Menorca comes before the full chamber on Tuesday, 6 October, after a tie in committee. The Partido Popular and Vox majority votes against it.
Local produce proposals also fail
The chamber rejects a proposed minimum of 5% Balearic produce in tourism businesses and establishments. It also votes down a proposal for a law requiring large food retailers to include minimum shares of local products.
Ambulance staff miss out on proposed supplement
Three parts of a Unidas Podemos proposal concerning hard-to-fill emergency medical technician and patient transport assistant posts on Eivissa, Formentera and Menorca also fail. They, too, had ended in ties in committee.
With Partido Popular and Vox opposed, parliament rejects recognising patient transport technicians at the public company Gsaib, and staff hired as patient transport assistants, as healthcare workers. It also rejects classifying their posts as hard to fill and paying the corresponding salary supplement.
