Mallorca’s Calvià in final for 2027 tourism title
Calvià on Mallorca is one of eight finalists for the 2027 European tourism capital title. It will put its case to the European Commission in Brussels on 18 and 19 November: the presentation comes on the first day, with the decision due on the second.
Eivissa is also in the final, along with Calais in France, Selçuk in Turkey, Zadar in Croatia, Geestland in Germany, Nova Gorica in Slovenia and Sandanski in Bulgaria. Calvià Council said on Tuesday that there had been 40 entries in all. Calvià is competing in the category for municipalities with 25,000 to 100,000 inhabitants.
The title recognises destinations for their work on sustainability, accessibility, digitalisation, cultural heritage, creativity and local talent. Calvià presented its bid in Strasbourg, France, on 20 October. The Brussels presentation is its next step before the result.
