Mallorca tourism: 150-plus bosses want value over volume
Mallorca’s tourism leaders want more value from each visitor, not simply more visitors: more than 150 executives from Balearic companies met at the St. Regis Mardavall hotel on Mallorca, Spain, on Friday, 23 October 2026. The Association for Management Progress organised the meeting, according to a statement from the organisers.
Llorenç Fluxà, who heads the association in the Balearic Islands, said the industry was strong internationally but needed to change its business model. Miquel Rosselló, tourism director for the Balearic Islands government, said each visitor should make a greater positive contribution to the local economy. He linked that aim to sustainability, life alongside tourists and protecting natural resources.
Hotel funding was also on the agenda. Vicente Fenollar of Barceló Hotel Group said companies seeking alternative finance must be open about their figures and ready to answer investors’ questions. Susana de Antonio of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles, Spain’s stock market operator, urged firms to consider a stock-market listing.
Looking to next year, José Ramón Bauzá of the Aviation Tourism Forum expected the market to settle rather than expand. He said air links, operating costs, housing costs and fuel prices would affect competitiveness. Javier Gándara of the Airline Association called for the Balearic Islands’ air connections to be preserved.
Former Spanish ambassador Rafael Dezcallar expected demand for travel to hold up, but pointed to energy supplies, food pressures linked to the war in Ukraine and cybersecurity as risks. The organisers set out no specific measures for holidaymakers or residents.
