Palma police hold teen after two toy-gun shop raids

A minor has been arrested in Palma after two late-night raids on shops in Bons Aires on 1 and 3 September. Police say he admitted taking part while carrying toy guns bought from a toy shop. His father recognised him in a news video and told him to call emergency services on Sunday night.

National Police officers arrested the boy after speaking with him and his parents. He is suspected of two robberies involving threats at food shops and of breaking into a school in Camp Redó in August.

Till drawer taken from fruit shop

The first raid happened at about 01.20 at a fruit shop in Bons Aires. Two young men wearing hoods and masks entered, and one pointed a weapon at a worker while demanding money from the till.

One asked for the till code. When they could not open it, they took the whole cash drawer and fled. Police later found the drawer without the money but did not find the raiders.

Supermarket staff confront raiders

At about 03.40, three young men with motorcycle helmets covering their faces entered a supermarket in the same neighbourhood. They appeared to be carrying pistols and demanded cash.

Staff confronted them, police said. The three pointed the weapons at the workers before escaping on three mopeds, where three other young men were waiting. They took no money from the supermarket.

The minor also admitted entering a school in Camp Redó in August. When an alarm sounded and police arrived, he fled with only some sweets, according to the National Police.

Officers are continuing their investigation and say further arrests have not been ruled out.
