Aid for traditional boats came under fire in Parliament in Palma, Mallorca, on Tuesday, 15 September. Sea and Water Cycle Minister Juan Manuel Lafuente defended the Balearic government’s work to preserve and promote the vessels. PSIB MP Pilar Carbonero called for support and funding, with particular focus on the Portocolom case.
Lafuente pointed to agreements with ports, reduced fees and backing for yacht clubs that promote traditional boats.
Carbonero urged him not to “replace heritage and culture with business”. Lafuente hit back: “Plenty of criticism and demagoguery, but when it matters, zero effort.”
