Balearic Tragsatec staff plan pay protests, may strike
Balearic Islands: 60 per cent of public company Tragsatec’s workforce back protests over extra pay to cover the higher cost of living on the islands. A strike could follow if staff do not receive a satisfactory response. The company’s works council announced the plan on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, after a staff meeting on Friday.
Staff will first sign a manifesto, then hold gatherings outside Tragsatec sites and offices with large numbers of its workers across the islands. They want an island allowance, which the works council says employees in other parts of the public sector already receive.
Unions have spent months seeking an agreement with Tragsatec covering workers in the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla. None has been reached. Staff hope the protests will push the company and the relevant authorities towards a solution.
