Mallorca’s train week brings two free children’s activities to the station in Inca, Mallorca, on Saturday. Events also run in Son Carrió, Mallorca, from 23 to 28 October. Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca has organised the Inca sessions; both require advance registration through the QR code on an information poster.

A little train and a postcard

At 10am, children aged three to six can hear ‘Sebi y el secreto de Xiu’. Sebi is a little train named after Eusebi Estada. With Xiu, a whistle, he travels through episodes from Mallorca’s railway history.

At 11am, ‘Una postal, un viaje’ gives six- to 11-year-olds a look at how trains once carried post and what mail vans were used for. They can then make and stamp their own postcards.

Inside the railway museum

The Railway Museum in Son Carrió has guided tours of its workshop at 4pm on 23 October and 11am the following day. On 28 October at 4pm, ‘El furgón de los sentidos’ invites families with children aged six to nine to explore the goods Mallorca’s trains once carried and how freight transport changed the island and everyday life.

Inca’s place in the programme has a link to the island’s first railway line: it opened in 1875 and connected the town with Palma.
