The scrappage grants form part of a package intended to ease the economic effects of the war in the Middle East on transport. This is the seventh decision on transport-aid payments. Across all the schemes, the government has authorised 1,217 payments worth €7.8 million. The aid covers freight transport, coach operators, taxis and private-hire vehicles with drivers.

The regional Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility says Menorca accounts for 38 grants worth nearly €302,000, Ibiza for 69 worth nearly €420,000 and Formentera for six worth nearly €148,000.

The government received 1,440 applications covering 7,636 vehicles. It has so far accepted 1,285 applications, or 91% of those received, worth nearly €8.3 million. The schemes opened in July, with almost €10 million allocated to businesses and self-employed operators transporting goods and passengers.
