Balearic transport fuel aid: nearly €1m paid out
Nearly €1 million in fuel aid goes to transport operators in the Balearic Islands: the regional government publishes its third round of payments on Thursday, 8 October, to help with higher fuel costs linked to the war in Iran and the Middle East. The payments so far cover 349 grants, according to the Balearic Department of Housing, Territory and Mobility.
Goods carriers and bus firms receive payments
The latest round pays nearly €40,000 through 23 grants to self-employed goods carriers. That brings the total for this part of the scheme to 288 recipients and more than €553,000 paid.
Bus companies providing occasional passenger services have also received 61 grants worth more than €393,000 in total.
More applications approved than paid
Across its transport aid schemes, the government has approved 1,175 applications so far. Those include 268 grants for goods transport companies, 527 for the taxi sector and 31 for vehicles with drivers. The Mobility Directorate has received 1,440 applications covering 7,636 vehicles.
The schemes opened in July and cover operators on all the islands, including Mallorca. Their combined budget is €9.85 million. Of that, €6 million is set aside for higher fuel costs in goods transport. The budget also includes €750,000 for occasional bus services, €500,000 for taxis, €100,000 for vehicles with drivers and €2.5 million to help scrap transport vehicles such as lorries and buses.
