Palma plans over 14,500 trees and shrubs on Mallorca
Palma, Mallorca: the city plans more than 14,500 trees and shrubs in a replacement campaign launched on 2 November. Planting across the city’s districts and Bellver Forest is due to take place over the coming months. Palma City Council says its Parks and Gardens service will oversee the work.
The initial plan for Palma’s districts covers 963 trees and 9,909 shrubs. More planting is planned in Bellver Forest.
Bellver Forest gets trees, shrubs and path repairs
The forest is due to receive 267 trees: 27 carob trees and 240 olive and almond trees. The plan also includes 3,400 shrubs. This work forms part of a project to restore the woodland and make it more natural, as well as repair its paths and access routes. Part of the funding comes from the Sustainable Tourism Tax.
Planting follows the seasons
The council usually splits planting between the cooler months, roughly November to February, and the warmer period from March to April. It says the timing takes account of the weather and how each species grows.
The figures may change as work progresses. The Parks and Gardens service will assess what is needed during the campaign.
