Mallorca heat returns: tropical nights next week

Mallorca may face tropical nights again next week as high temperatures return to the Balearic Islands. Before that, showers and thunderstorms may still cross the islands on Thursday. Samuel Biener, a climatologist at Meteored, says the outlook is based on the European weather model.

A ridge of high pressure from the Sahara is expected to bring several days of intense heat and settled weather across Spain. In wide areas of the mainland, temperatures are forecast to run 8 to 10 ºC above normal, with conditions more typical of July.

The heat may start to ease from Wednesday as the high-pressure ridge weakens. A new weather system could then trigger locally heavy thunderstorms in different parts of Spain, although Biener does not expect widespread unsettled weather.
