Mallorca teachers still waiting for tutor pay rise

Palma, Mallorca: teachers across the Balearic Islands are still waiting for an agreed rise in their tutor allowance after a September payment deadline passed, the UGT union says. On Friday, 16 October, UGT said the increase had not appeared in teachers’ pay and the Balearic Ministry of Education and Universities had given no new payment date at that day’s education meeting.

UGT says the rise was first announced in March 2025 for payment that September. It did not arrive. After the union pressed the issue in negotiations, the ministry said payment would come in September 2026.

Under the approved agreement, the tutor allowance, currently 60 euros a month, was to increase from the 2026–27 school year, with the first higher payment in September. UGT now wants the ministry to explain the delay, say which steps remain and give teachers a firm date for receiving the new amount.
