Mallorca university secures 4,627m² at ParcBit

Future University of the Balearic Islands facilities gain 4,627 square metres of permitted building space at the ParcBit technology park in Palma, Mallorca. On 13 September 2026, the university, known as UIB, completed the notarised purchase of plot 7A. Carles Mulet, UIB vice-rector for Economy, Infrastructure and Campus, formalised the deal.

Plot 7A has 2,311 square metres of permitted building space. It sits beside plot 6A, which has 2,316 square metres and is owned by the Balearic Government. The government has committed to hand that neighbouring site to UIB for the future university development.

The Ministry of Economy, Finance and Innovation says the move forms part of a wider plan to bring more activity, businesses, talent and innovation to ParcBit. Its business and talent attraction plan foresees mobilising nearly 68 million euros.

The government says it reclaimed two previously sold plots in 2025, adding more than 11,000 square metres of permitted building space for companies and strategic projects. It also plans 120 temporary-rental homes for workers, researchers and teaching staff, with construction expected to begin in the first half of next year. Solar panels in the car park, improved public lighting and the arrival of the metro are also listed among the plans.
